Golf – Hornets pick up wins over PM East and Pleasant Valley in EPC opener, but fall to defending league and District XI champ Northampton.

The Emmaus golf team opened up its season with a second-place finish in a quad match held at Southmoore Golf Course on Tuesday.

Head coach Pat Birns’ squad registered a team score of 416, five shots better than Pocono Mountain East (421) and 36 shots less than Pleasant Valley (452). Defending EPC and District XI champion Northampton finished first at 390.

Sophomore Evan Walters led the Hornets with a 9-over 80, while teammate junior Kyan DeLong was one shot back, 10-over 81. Senior Karson Krasley was third (83) followed by sophomore Silas Wellhoener (85) and senior Zach Heller (87).

Northampton’s Gavin Pychinka fired the low round of the day with a 1-over 72 and teammate, Kohler Stroll, was next with a 2-over 73. Pleasant Valley’s Lydon Patascher was third with a 5-over 76.

Emmaus will return to action on August 20 at 12:30 p.m. as they travel to Bethlehem Municipal to take on Becahi, Easton and Whitehall.
