In an early-season showdown between two of the top teams in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, it was pre-season league favorite Nazareth edging Emmaus by just two strokes on Wednesday afternoon at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.
The Blue Eagles had four players shoot in the 70s which proved to be the difference as they improved to 6-0 on the season. Sophomore Alex DiGiacinto paced Nazareth with a 75, one shot better than teammate Charlie Rotzell, 76. Juniors Holden Sparks and Brady Rohn were both two shots back with rounds of 77.
For Emmaus (5-1) which suffered its first loss, three golfers finished with rounds in the 70s led by junior Evan Walters, who had the low round of the day with a 2-over 73. Teammate Silas Wellhoener was one shot back with a 3-over 74. Sophomore Greyson Schmidt cracked the top five for the first time this season finishing with an 81.
Emmaus will return to the links on Thursday at Noon as they travel to Riverview CG to take on Easton, Whitehall and Bethlehem Catholic.
