Golf – Zerfass fires 2-under 69 on opening day leading Hornets to key early-season EPC wins over Liberty and Northampton

Sophomore Matt Zerfass was top medalist on opening day of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference schedule Thursday at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course in leading Emmaus to a key early-season sweep over both Liberty and Northampton.

Zerfass fired a 2-under round 69 (34-35) with four birdies on the day as the defending EPC regular-season and District XI champs shot a team score of 374, easily defeating second-place Liberty (417) and third-place Northampton (445).

Junior Michelle Cox and sophomore Aiden LeBlanc also had solid rounds for the Hornets, finishing tied for third overall at 3-over 74, while freshman John Keba shot a 6-over 77 and teammate, junior Colin Wong, was three strokes back with 9-over 80 in their first career high school starts.

Northampton’s Nate Wheeler finished second overall with a round of 2-over 73.

Emmaus will return to action on Tuesday, August 20 as they travel to Allentown Municipal Golf Course to take on Pleasant Valley, East Stroudsburg South and Central Catholic at 2 p.m.
