Editor’s Note: Over the next weeks and months, Emmaussports.com will be spotlighting senior spring sports student-athletes at Emmaus High School who have had their final athletic year canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Today we spotlight Laura Boyko (LB) of the girls lacrosse team with our Q and A session:
Q: How are you coping during these difficult and uncertain times with the Coronavirus pandemic?
LB: I am focusing on staying busy and continuing to stay on top of my schoolwork. I am working on staying hopeful that we will soon be back to normal.
Q: What’s been the biggest challenge for you day to day?
LB: My biggest challenge has been finding ways to stay positive. I am trying to use my time in ways that will help me better myself and keep me engaged in something beneficial to make the most out of these unique times.
Q: What are you doing to keep busy?
LB: I am trying to stay active and spend lots of time outside. I have been doing a bit of baking and organizing around the house. Also, I have spent a lot of time with family and tried to remain connected with some friends.
Q: How disappointed are you now that it has been cancelled?
LB: I am very disappointed I won’t get to enjoy the season all of us seniors have been playing towards. We have such a tight-knit group of girls and was very excited to experience game days with them. I am grateful I was able to make so many lasting memories with my team, but I will definitely miss not being able to finish out our final season.
Q: What is your favorite memory from your high school sports career?
LB: Overall, the time spent with my friends and teammates over the past four seasons has given me many unforgettable memories. In particular, our team trip to Maryland was a fun experience where we were able to bond as a team and become closer as friends, all while enjoying the lacrosse-filled weekend.
Q: What are you future plans after high school? If college, what school have you committed to and do you plan on playing sports and what will be your major?
LB: I will be attending Villanova University to major in biology. I’m not playing on the lacrosse team but I hope to join club and intramural teams.
Q: What’s the best advice you can give to your underclassmen?
LB: Cherish every moment of high school and athletics. It will be over before you know it, so make the best out of everything you do. Have fun with it.
