Editor’s Note: Over the next weeks and months, Emmaussports.com will be spotlighting senior spring sports student-athletes at Emmaus High School who have had their final athletic year sidelined due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Today we spotlight senior pitcher Vince Petrizzi (VP) from the Emmaus baseball team with our Q and A session:
Q: How are you coping during these difficult and uncertain times with the Coronavirus pandemic?
VP: During this difficult quarantine period I have been trying to take advantage of free time at home with my family. I have been trying to stay in shape and do other activities outside during these nice days.
Q: What’s been the biggest challenge for you day in and day out?
VP: The biggest challenge for me day to day is trying to keep my arm in shape. I don’t have a mound at home and the weather has not allowed me to be outside every day so I have been doing my best preparing for a possible season.
Q: What are you doing to keep busy?
VP: To keep busy I have been doing things outside and playing video games. I’m trying to do my best to enjoy myself while everyone is locked in at home.
Q: How much hope do you still have that there will be a spring sports season?
VP: I am hopeful that we can still have some kind of season at this point in the year, whether that is a condensed season or playing five/six games a week. Right now there is no telling what is going to happen, but I hope we can get back to school in May and still be able to play.
Q; How will you feel if the spring sports season gets cancelled?
VP: If the season gets cancelled I would definitely be disappointed. We came up just short of a district title last year, and the guys on the team worked really hard this winter to come back ready for a championship run. So if the season does in fact get cancelled it would be disappointing to not be able to put our hard work into games.
Q: What will be your favorite memory from your high school sports career if the season gets cancelled?
VP: My favorite memory from high school baseball would be the spring trips with the team. It was always a great time to bond with everyone before the season, and it is disappointing the trip this year had to be cancelled.
Q: What are you future plans after high school?
VP: My plan after high school is to attend the University of Delaware and study either psychology or biomedical engineering.
Q: What’s the best advice you can give to your underclassmen?
VP: The best advice to an underclassman is to take advantage of the time you have during high school sports and enjoy it. Use the seniors this year as an example of what it means to play every game like it is your last one because you never know what odd circumstances could end a season.
