” I think the best advice I could give to the underclassmen is that don’t take anything for granted and enjoy everything that high school and sports bring to you.” The words of Nathan Eshelman. Our Q & A with the boys volleyball senior.

Editor’s Note: Over the next weeks and months, Emmaussports.com will be spotlighting senior spring sports student-athletes at Emmaus High School who have had their final athletic year cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Today we spotlight Nathan Eshelman (NE) of the boys volleyball team with our Q and A session:

Q: How are you coping during these difficult and uncertain times with the Coronavirus pandemic?

NE: During these difficult and uncertain times, I have been trying to cope with the different type of rules that we have been told by the government to follow.

Q: What’s been the biggest challenge for you day to day?

NE: The biggest challenge for me is not being able to go to school and socialize and see my friends in person and not just over social media. Another challenge for me is not being able to finish my final season of volleyball this spring and working hard every day with my teammates to be able to succeed this season against our competition.

Q: What are you doing to keep busy?

NE: The thing that I’m doing to keep busy is keeping up with my school work, then either playing video games or playing disc golf to bypass the day a little faster.

Q: How disappointed are you now that the spring sports season has been cancelled?

NE: I’m really disappointed since it was my final season and I’m not going back next year because it’s a thing I love doing. It’s also something I have been working on so hard for so many years, and I would never think this was going to be the way I end my senior year of high school by not playing my final season with my teammates one last time.

Q: What is your favorite memory from your high school sports career?

NE: My favorite memory is just the different atmospheres that you endure over the years of playing a sport. Also all the hard work we put together as a team throughout the season to push to see how far we can go through the EPC’s, districts and even states.

Q: What are you future plans after high school? If college, what school have you committed to and do you plan on playing sports and what will be your major?

NE: My future plan after high school is to go to Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) for two years and then transfer out to another school. I would major in either sports marketing or sports management and I won’t be playing volleyball in college. Even though I won’t be playing, it doesn’t mean I’m giving up volleyball as I will still be playing at churches in the valley and playing in outdoor tournaments in my future after high school.

Q: What’s the best advice you can give to your underclassmen?

NE: I think the best advice I could give to the underclassman is that don’t take anything for granted and enjoy everything that high school and sports bring to you cause when it’s over, you can never get those experiences back and your not going to want to miss your only opportunities in high school.
