The annual cancer charity game – Battle Lax – between Emmaus and Southern Lehigh high schools will be held on Saturday, April 23 at Southern Lehigh Middle School Stadium in Center Valley.
Now in its fifth year of existence, the two schools join forces to fight cancer by creating awareness with a all-day lacrosse event.
Action gets underway at 10 a.m. with the junior varsity girls followed by the JV boys at 11:30 a.m. The varsity girls game will play at 2 p.m. followed by the varsity boys game at 4 p.m.
At 12:45 p.m. in between the JV and varsity games, there will be a presentation ceremony featuring the Southern Lehigh Junior Meisters singing the National Anthem, representatives from both charities will discuss their mission and special guests will participate in a fun ceremonial faceoff.
In addition to the outstanding lacrosse, the daylong event will include various fundraising activities. There will also be prizes of big-ticket raffle items. Sheets of raffle tickets will be sold at the game for $10 or $20. Additionally, food and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Also, during the event, spectators will have access to information tables staffed by PCHF and HEADstrong representatives.
Emmaus’ charity is the Pancreatic Cancer Hope Foundation. The PCHF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create awareness about pancreatic cancer, raise funds for pancreatic cancer research and support the patients in the Lehigh Valley undergoing treatment for the disease and their caregivers.
Southern Lehigh’s charity is the HEADstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by Nicholas “Head” Colleluori to improve quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Nick was a lacrosse player from Pennsylvania diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a blood cancer affecting the lymphatic system.
