The annual cancer charity games – Crosse Out Cancer – between Emmaus and Southern Lehigh high schools will be held this Saturday, April 15 at Emmaus High School.
Now in its sixth year of existence, the two schools join forces to fight cancer by creating awareness with a all-day lacrosse event. A total of four games will be played with both the girls and boys varsity and JV teams in action.
Play gets underway at 11 a.m. with varsity girls at Memorial Field and JV boys at EPSD Stadium. There will be a ceremonial presentation at 12:45 p.m. where representatives from both charities will discuss their mission and special guests will participate in a fun ceremonial faceoff. The day will conclude with the varsity boys game at Memorial Field and JV girls at EPSD Stadium, both starting at 1:30 p.m.
In addition to the outstanding lacrosse, the daylong event will include various fundraising activities. There will also be prizes of big-ticket raffle items. Sheets of raffle tickets will be sold at the game for $10 or $20. Additionally, food and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Also, during the event, spectators will have access to information tables staffed by PC Hope Foundation and HEADstrong representatives.
Emmaus’ charity is the Pancreatic Cancer Hope Foundation. The PCHF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create awareness about pancreatic cancer, raise funds for pancreatic cancer research and support the patients in the Lehigh Valley undergoing treatment for the disease and their caregivers.
Southern Lehigh’s charity is the HEADstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by Nicholas “Head” Colleluori to improve quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Nick was a lacrosse player from Pennsylvania diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a blood cancer affecting the lymphatic system.
