Monday roundup – Field Hockey scores 4 goals late to defeat Easton in opener, while girls volleyball sweeps Hazleton in straight sets

Field Hockey – Emmaus 5, Easton 0

At Memorial Field, the Hornets opened their season with a shutout win over Easton.

Emmaus only led by a 1-0 advantage after three quarters, but in the final stanza the Hornets pulled away scoring four goals.

Senior Morgann Orobono wound up scoring the only goal Emmaus would need in the second quarter off a penalty corner.

Senior Sarah Palazzo led the Hornets offensive attack with two goals – both in the fourth quarter. Junior Madison Lenig also added a goal and an assist, while sophomore Alex Jensen added two assists.

Emmaus outshot Easton 14-3 with the Red Rovers holding a 7-6 advantage in penalty corners. In goal, junior Emily Romano picked up the win making three saves.

The Hornets will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as they travel to Becahi.

Girls Volleyball – Emmaus 3, Hazleton 0

Playing in its first-ever match inside the main gymnasium, Emmaus swept visiting Hazleton in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-18).

Seniors Maleya Hinds and Amanda Rivera led the Hornets offense with five kills apiece. Senior Alyssa Heffner had a solid all-around game with 23 assists to go along with three aces and 14 digs.

The Hornets travel to Whitehall tonight at 6:30 p.m. for their EPC opener

Girls Tennis – Emmaus 7, PM West 0

At Emmaus, the Hornets remained unbeaten on the season (5-0) sweeping all seven matches with PM West.

Up next will be a home match on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. vs East Stroudsburg South.
