Muller’s goal in second overtime lifts Hornets past CB East 2-1 and into state semifinals for the eighth straight season

Emmaus 2, Central Bucks East 1, 2 OT (PIAA State Quarterfinals)

RECAP – Joy Muller’s goal less than five minutes into the second sudden death overtime was the game-winner on Saturday afternoon at cold and windy Don Thomas Stadium at Exeter High School as Emmaus rallied for a 2-1 win over Central Bucks East in the PIAA State quarterfinals.

Muller, a senior, took a crossing pass from teammate sophomore Annika Herbine and buried a shot into the empty cage with 10:41 showing on the clock for her 22nd goal of the season as the Hornets survived a scare from the fourth-place team from District One.

The victory keeps Emmaus unbeaten on the season (26-0) and advances them into the state semifinals where they’ll face Hershey, the fourth-place team from District Three which stunned defending state champ Penn Manor 1-0.

The Hornets will be making their eighth straight appearance in the  semifinals and will be looking to reach the state finals for the second time in the last four years.

Emmaus had trailed in today’s contest 1-0 as the Patriots Emma Donnely scored off a rebound shot past senior goalie Claire Nielsen with 5:05 left in the first half.

The Hornets would respond, however, as they got the equalizer nine minutes into the second half as senior Kacie Patton scored her 24th goal of the season.

Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the second half and into the first 7-on-7 overtime, but it was Muller who provided the heroics in the second overtime advancing Emmaus to the next round.
