“Myself along with the other athletes are shocked that we will never be a part of senior night or mentor night festivities.” The words of Emma Schoenly. Our Q & A with the girls lacrosse senior

Editor’s Note: Over the next weeks and months, Emmaussports.com will be spotlighting senior spring sports student-athletes at Emmaus High School who have had their final athletic year cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Today we spotlight Emma Schoenly (ES) of the girls lacrosse team with our Q and A session:

Q: How are you coping during these difficult and uncertain times with the Coronavirus pandemic?

ES: I have been trying to stay as busy as possible, in hopes that the uncertain times will be over soon. I’ve been trying to stay positive and continue to look forward to events like prom and graduation.

Q: What’s been the biggest challenge for you day to day?

ES: The biggest challenge I have faced is wondering if I will be able to experience my fall semester of college.  I am constantly concerned about whether fall semester will be in the classroom or virtually. Another challenge is not being able to see my friends or teammates.  I am still trying to remain connected with them through social media.

Q: What are you doing to keep busy?

ES: To keep myself busy, I have been working, completing schoolwork, and spending time with my family. Also, whenever it is nice out I try to spend as much time as I can outside.

Q: Now that the spring sports season has been cancelled, how disappointed are you?

ES: After the news about our season being cancelled, I was very disappointed. Each athlete patiently waits for it to be their senior season, and to finally get recognized.  Myself along with the other athletes are shocked that we will never be apart of senior night or mentor night festivities. This year I felt that our team has come together and was ready to face tough competition throughout the league.  Even though the season was cut short, I was still able to make memories with my teammates that will last a lifetime.

Q:What will be your favorite memory from your high school sports career?

ES: My favorite memory from my high school career was beating Parkland my freshman year. After the win, the entire team was filled with excitement and joy because we beat our biggest rival.  Each year I also enjoyed playing in the Pan Can game, which supported a great cause.  It was a great feeling having both the boys and girls team come together in honor of families that have been affected by Pancreatic Cancer.

Q: What are you future plans after high school? If college, what school have you committed to and do you plan on playing sports and what will be your major?

ES: In the fall, I will be attending the University of Tennessee to major in Pre-Medicine.  Although they don’t have a NCAA team, I plan on joining a club or intramural team.

Q: What’s the best advice you can give to your underclassmen?

ES: To my fellow teammates, I encourage you to take every game and practice like it is your last one.  Continue to work hard each day and never give up.  Your time in high school flies by, so make the best of your time while your still at Emmaus.  No matter a win or loss, treasure the moments with your teammates.
