Soccer – Emmaus boys and girls teams sweep Central Catholic with both recording shutouts. RECAP:

Emmaus 7, Central Catholic 0 (Boys)

RECAP — Emmaus rolled to its largest margin to date on Monday afternoon as the Hornets cruised to an easy 7-0 shutout win over Central Catholic at Iron Lakes.

Senior Pat Walsh had a big day in leading the attack as he scored a natural hat trick in the first half for Emmaus, which posted its fifth straight shutout in improving to 5-0 on the season.

Classmate Hudson Peck added a pair of goals, his team-leading seventh and eighth of the season, while another senior, Josh Whalen, scored his third and junior Bryan Flor added his second. Junior Ryan Santos had a pair of assists in the win.

In the victory, three goalies – junior Ty Bleiler, senior Edward Zellner and sophomore Max McGrath – combined on the shutout with each making one save.

Emmaus outshot Central 10-3 in the contest and held an 8-6 advantage in corners.

The two teams will meet again for the second time in three days on Wednesday at Memorial Field at 6:30 pm. RECAP — Senior Maddie Brown scored the lone goal of the game late in the second half as the Hornets faced their first challenge of the season in defeating Central Catholic 1-0 on Monday night at Memorial Field. The game was carried LIVE on Penn Sports Radio.

Brown scored in the 71st minute on a scramble in front of the net off a corner kick from classmate Isabella Ingato as Emmaus remained unbeaten on the season at 5-0 after its fifth straight shutout.

The Hornets dominated play for much of the game outshooting the Vikettes by a wide 18-2 margin.

Central Catholic senior Emily Vaughan was forced into goalkeeping duties early in the first half after freshman Armani Brickhouse left the game with an injury, and was outstanding coming up with 17 saves in keeping the Vikettes within striking distance.

Junior Molly Lineberger picked up the win in goal for Emmaus turning away both shots she faced.

The two teams will meet again at 4 p.m on Wednesday at Iron Lakes.
