RECAP >> Archrival Parkland got the best of both the Emmaus girls’ and boys’ soccer teams last night as the Trojans shutout the Hornets 1-0 in the final regular-season game in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

In the girls’ game played at Memorial Field, junior midfielder Aristea Gougoustamos scored off an assist from classmate Dani Marsteller in the first half and that goal proved to be the difference as Parkland handed Emmaus just its second loss of the season.

The Trojans completed an undefeated regular-season (16-0 EPC/18-0 overall) and will be the top seed for the upcoming league ournament where they will be seeking their eighth straight league crown.

Emmaus, meanwhile, suffered its second straight shutout loss and dropped to 13-2-1 in the league and 14-3-1 overall. The Hornets are the No.3 seed and will host a quarterfinal round game at 3 p.m. on Saturday vs No.6 Becahi. Emmaus has already defeated the Golden Hawks once this season, winning 4-0 at home on September 14.

Parkland outshot Emmaus 9-3 in the match and held an 8-4 advantage in corners. Hornets goalie sophomore Ashley Stine made eights saves, while her counterpart, senior Kayla McNevin was credited with three stops.

At Parkland High School, junior Logan Thrash scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute of the first half as the Trojans held on for the one-goal victory, denying Emmaus head coach John Cari his 300th career win.

The Hornets played well in the game and had a number of scoring chances but were held scoreless for just the third time this season.

With the victory, Parkland (16-1-1 overall/16-1 EPC) earned the No.1 seed in the upcoming EPC tournament and will host No.8 seed East Stroudsburg South, while the Hornets fell to 15-2-1 overall (15-2 EPC). Emmaus will be the No.3 seed and host No.6 seed Whitehall at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams met back on September 2 at Whitehall with the Hornets prevailing 2-1 in overtime.
