Soccer – Hornets return to their winning ways with 6-0 rout of Freedom in District XI opener; face Easton for the second straight year in semis

Senior Mya Cooper was one of six players to score a goal in yesterday's 6-0 win over Freedom in the District XI playoffs.

The scoring came early and often for Emmaus in their District XI Class 4A playoff opener against Freedom on Wednesday afternoon at home at Memorial Field as the Hornets rolled to an easy 6-0 victory.

Six different players scored goals in the win for Emmaus, which was in action for the first time since falling to rival Parkland 6-0 in the EPC semifinals a week ago.

Senior Mya Cooper got the scoring started with her fourth goal of the season in the 9th minute of play off a corner kick.

Junior Kam McWhinney tallied her team-leading 14th goal of the year, while freshman Lizzie Bender and senior Sammy Walkiewicz both scored their 13th goals. Senior Ashley Geder added her fourth goal of the season and junior Lizzie Navitsky her first.

The shutout was the 12th of the season for Emmaus which had blanked Freedom 3-0 on September 27.

Up next for the Hornets (15-5-1 overall) will be a rematch against Easton in the semifinals. A year ago, Emmaus defeated the Red Rovers 3-2 in the same round. Easton, however, beat Emmaus earlier this season when the two teams met on October 2, 2-1.
