Soccer – Woodward’s hat trick leads Emmaus past Becahi 4-0 in EPC playoff opener; Hornets to face CCHS in Tuesday’s semifinal

RECAP >> The Emmaus girls soccer team returned to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon at home at Memorial Field as the Hornets rolled to a 4-0 win over Bethlehem Catholic in the opening-round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference playoffs.

Senior Madison Woodward scored just :16 seconds into the game, part of her first hat trick of season, in leading Emmaus which snapped a two-game losing streak. The Hornets also defeated the Golden Hawks for the second time (first meeting: 3-0 September 14).

With the victory, Emmaus advances (15-3-1 overall) to Tuesday’s semifinal where they’ll meet Central Catholic the No.2 seed which defeated seventh-seeded Northampton 6-1. The two teams played to a 0-0 draw back on September 15.

Junior Ryleigh McNellis also scored a goal in the win for the Hornets, her second of the season. In goal, sophomore Ashley Stine posted the shutout, the 13th of the season for Emmaus.

Bethlehem Catholic dropped to 11-7 with the loss.
