Softball – Derr delivers game-winning hit, Eiswerth strikes out 12 as Hornets rally for 3-2 win over Stroudsburg

Trailing 2-1 heading to their final at-bat, Emmaus scored a pair of runs as the Hornets rallied to defeat visiting Stroudsburg 3-2 on a blustery afternoon Tuesday at Williams Street Field.

Junior first baseman Abby Derr’s double was the game-winning hit with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning for head coach Rich Giering’s team which won its third straight game.

With the victory, the Hornets improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the EPC, while the Mounties dropped to 5-2 overall and in the league.

Derr wound up 2-for-3 in the game with a pair of doubles, while senior second baseman Sadie Haefeli also had a pair of hits for Emmaus, which outhit Stroudsburg 9-5 in the game. Senior Amanda King also went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In the circle, pitcher Mari Eiswerth threw 132 pitches in picking up the win. The sophomore struck out 12 and walked just three.

For the Mounties, shortstop Madison Perez was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

The Hornets will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as they host rival Parkland back at Williams Street Field.
