After allowing a big lead slip away in a one run loss to the Zephyrs last week, Emmaus had revenge on their minds as the two teams met for the second time on Thursday afternoon in the Hornets regular-season finale at Williams Street Field.
With Mari Eiswerth allowing just one run in a complete game effort in the circle, head coach Rich Giering’s squad was able to get that sour taste out of their mouths as they defeated the Zephyrs 4-1.
Eiswerth scattered just five hits while striking out 10 as Emmaus won for the fourth straight time as they climbed atop the EPC standings with a 13-2 mark, 16-3 overall. The sophomore also helped her own cause at the plate going 2-for-3.
The Hornets never trailed in the game as they scored one run in the second inning, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth before the Zephyrs avoided the shutout with a run in their final at-bat.
Senior third baseman Avery DeFanti went 1-for-3 with her third home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning, while sophomore catcher Morgan Schwab also had a pair of hits. Senior left fielder Avery Shank was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
For Whitehall, shortstop Josie Shultz led the offense going 2-for-4 at the plate. Third baseman Bella Muth added a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning as the Zephyrs avoided the shutout. In the circle, senior Morgan Laub suffered the loss after allowing four runs on five hits. The Zephyrs had their six-game win streak snapped as they fell to 12-3 in the EPC and 12-6 overall.
Emmaus will close out its regular season on Monday at 4 p.m. as they travel to rival Parkland.
