The Emmaus softball team will begin its quest for its first District XI Class 6A championship since 2007 when the Hornets begin play on Tuesday.
Head coach Brittany D’Agostino’s team has earned the No.4 seed and will host fifth-seeded Freedom at 4 p.m. at Kiwanis Field. This will be the first meeting between the two schools this season.
Emmaus is 15-7 overall on the season, while the Patriots are 16-6. Both teams are coming off semifinal losses in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference playoffs, the Hornets falling to Northampton 2-0 and Freedom losing to Parkland 9-1.
The Trojans, who defeated Northampton 4-0 for its sixth straight EPC championship, have earned the No.1 overall seed. Parkland (21-2) is the defending champ and have won four of the past five district titles. The Trojans will face the winner of No.8 Easton (12-8) or No.9 Liberty (10-9) in Tuesday’s quarterfinal.
On the bottom half of the bracket, No.2 Northampton (18-5) will take on the winner of No. 7 Stroudsburg (14-7)/No.10 Pocono Mountain East (10-10), while No. 3 seed Nazareth (15-6) will face the winner of No. 6 Whitehall (12-9)/No.11 Pleasant Valley (9-11).
The semifinals are set for Tuesday, May 28 at Pates Park with the finals on Thursday, May 30. The top two teams from the district will qualify for the PIAA State Tournament beginning on Monday, June 3.
A year ago, Emmaus qualified as the No.9 seed and went on the road and defeated Whitehall 15-7 before falling to top-seeded Parkland 2-1 in the quarterfinals.
