Softball – Hornets fall to rival Parkland as Trojans use big five-run seventh to win 8-3 and even season series with Emmaus

RECAP >> A five-run seventh inning proved to be the difference on Thursday afternoon at Kiwans Field as visiting Parkland gained revenge for an earlier-season loss to Emmaus by defeating the Hornets 8-3. The game was carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network with former Hornet Marah Sisonick ’21 being part of the broadcast.

Parkland’s Brenna Zavecz came off the bench and delivered the key hit in the win as she blasted a bases-clearing triple to right field in the top of the seventh as the Trojans evened the season-series with the Hornets by atoning for a 2-0 loss back on April 13.

The loss dropped Emmaus to 12-3 in the EPC and 15-4 overall, while Parkland improved to 12-3 in the league and 13-5 overall.

The Trojans outhit Emmaus 11-7 in the game. Parkland’s No.1-5 hitters – shortstop Jenna Piatkicwicz, Allison Hunsberger, second baseman Cassidy Sweeney, first baseman Shana Gugliandolo and center fielder Evelyn Montone – all had two hits in the win. 

Starting pitcher Ashlyn Hillanbrand picked up the win in the circle for Parkland. The Trojans righthander scattered seven hits and struck out 11 in the compete-game effort.

Emmaus was led offensively by second baseman Daria Krout whe went 4-for-4 at the plate in the leadoff position. Krout had two triples and a double on the day. 

Pitcher Danika Barthol was touched up for a season-high eight runs on 11 hits in the loss as she dropped to 8-2 on the season. The right-hander struck out 11.

The Hornets will close out their regular-season on Monday as they face Central Catholic at 6 p.m. at Pates Park.
