Softball – Hornets fall to rival Parkland for the second time this week, drop sixth straight in 2-0 defeat

RECAP >> The Emmaus girls softball team suffered its sixth straight loss on Thursday afternoon at windy Parkland High School as the Hornets fell to their arch-rival for the second time in three days, 2-0.

Emmaus, which had been no-hit in Tuesday’s 9-0 loss to the Trojans, managed just a pair of hits in the game from senior shortstop Marah Sisonick and sophomore second baseman Daria Krout and were held in check by Parkland pitcher senior Katie Zaun who struck out 13.

Parkland scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning off Hornets starter senior Lily Bruckler. Center fielder Leeanna Zagrodnik tripled to lead off the game and then scored on second baseman Cassidy Sweeney’s groundout. One batter later, shortstop Jenna Piatkiewicz homered to left field to make it 2-0.

The loss dropped Emmaus to 4-7 overall and 4-5 in the EPC, while Parkland improved to 10-2 and 9-0 in the league.

The Hornets will look to get back into the win column today at 4 p.m. as they host Pottsville (6-4) in a non-league game.
