RECAP >> Junior pitcher Danika Barthol limited Freedom to just one run through five innings and her offense backed her by scoring early and often as the Hornets knocked off the defending EPC champs 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Kiwanis Field in Emmaus.
Barthol struck out at least one batter in every inning and wound up with 10 on the afternoon while scattering six hits and giving up just one walk as she improved to 5-1 on the season for Emmaus, which improved to 7-1 in the league and 9-2 overall.
Junior second baseman Daria Krout had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, classmate center fielder Shayla Morgan also had two hits, shortstop Avaeha Schwab drove in two runs and Barthol helped her own cause with a pair of hits.
For Freedom, sophomore second baseman Madison Glick went 2-for-4 at the plate. The Pates dropped to 5-4 in the EPC and 5-5 overall after suffering their fourth straight loss.
Emmaus will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Easton to take on the Red Rovers (3-4). First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
