Softball – Hornets prepare for upcoming EPC Tournament with 13-2 rout of archrival Parkland in regular-season finale

A nine-run first inning ignited Emmaus to an easy win over rival Parkland on Monday afternoon as the Hornets closed out a stellar EPC regular-season with a 13-2 rout of the Trojans.

In sweeping both meetings from Parkland for the second consecutive season, Emmaus finished with a 14-2 mark in the league and 17-3 overall. The Hornets, winners of five straight, will be either be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed and earn a first round home game when the EPC playoffs get underway on Thursday.

Three Trojans pitchers couldn’t slow down the Emmaus bats who pounded out for 14 hits in the game.

Junior first baseman Abby Derr led the offense for head coach Rich Giering’s team going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI. Sophomore pitcher Mari Eiswerth also drove in four runs to go along with two hits, while classmates shortstop Sydney Bennett, catcher Morgan Schwab along with senior second baseman Sadie Haefeli all had two hits.

Eiswerth picked up her 14th win of the season on the mound, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out four.

Parkland, which dropped to 8-7 in the EPC and 9-8 overall, managed just three hits in the game. Junior first baseman Elizabeth Pinkham was 1-for-2 with an RBI. In the circle, starter Allison Hunsberger lasted just 2/3 of an inning after getting touched up for nine runs on nine hits.
