Softball – Hornets suffer first league loss at hands of defending District XI champ Northampton and Zamadics 2-0

Recap >> Northampton pitcher Kaira Zamadics and her counterpart Emmaus’ Danika Barthol were matched up in a classic pitchers duel on Friday afternoon in Wescosville.

Zamadics struck out 14 and allowed just three hits, while Barthol scattered five hits and fanned 12.

The difference in the game, however, was Zamadics’ bat as she blasted a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning and that would be all the defending District XI champs would need as they blanked the Hornets 2-0.

The victory was the sixth in as many games for unbeaten Northampton (6-0 overall/4-0 EPC), while Emmaus suffered its second loss and first in league play (5-2/ 4-1).

Zamadics was the only player with multiple hits in the game as she wound up 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI for the K-Kids.

Barthol was the tough-luck loser in the circle for Emmaus, which was shutout for the first time this season.

Junior Shayla Morgan, senior Lindsey Moreau and junior Rachel Sherman each had one hit in the loss for the Hornets.

Emmaus will look to bounce back on Monday as they travel to Pocono Mountain West. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
