RECAP >> Senior pitcher Hannah Palinkas fired her second shutout of the season and junior outfielder Tatum Kresley reached a personal milestone as Emmaus went on the road and defeated Liberty 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hornets improved to 6-2 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) and 7-3 overall following their fourth straight win.
Palinkas won her third straight decision and improved to 6-2 on the season after scattering five hits and striking out 12 in going the distance.
Kresley, who entered the game hitting an incredible .719 on the season (23-for-32), lined a single to left field in the third inning for her 100th career hit. She finished the day going 2-for-4 out of the leadoff position.
Emmaus scored all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning on a RBI double from senior catcher Abby Bartels (2-for-4) and a RBI single off the bat of sophomore shortstop Marah Sisonick (3-for-4). Senior center fielder Lily Trexler also had a big day at the plate going 3-for-3.
Junior Paige Zigmund struck out nine and walked just two in suffering the loss on the mound for Liberty which dropped its third straight game. The Hurricane are now 5-3 in the league and 6-4 overall.
Emmaus will be off until next Monday, April 22 when they host Schuylkill League foe Pottsville in a non-league game at 4 p.m. at Kiwanis Field.
