Softball – Quick start lifts Hornets past Nazareth 5-1 in District XI Quarterfinal round opener

RECAP >> Lindsay Moreau and Danika Barthol provided a 1-2 punch for Emmaus that was too much for Nazareth to overcome.

Moreau, the Hornets senior first baseman, had a big day at the plate with four RBI, while her teammate Barthol, the team’s junior pitcher, was dominant in the circle with 13 strikeouts as Emmaus opened up the District XI Class 6A playoffs with a 5-1 win over Nazareth yesterday at Kiwanis Field in Emmaus. The game was carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com.

With the victory, the Hornets (18-5 overall) are on to the semifinals next Tuesday to take on Northampton, the No.2 seed, which advanced with a 7-0 win over seventh-seeded Freedom. The site and time have not yet been announced. The Hornets and K-Kids have already met twice this season with each team winning once.

Emmaus jumped on Nazareth in the first two innings with three runs in the first and two more in the second. Moreau (2-for-4) had a two-run triple in the first which was more than enough offense for Barthol who gave up just three hits in earning her 10th win of the season.

Juniors Daria Krout, Shayla Morgan, Kamryn Tokar, Avaeha Schwab and senior Sami Lilly all had one hit in the game for Emmaus.

Nazareth ends its season at 13-8 with the loss.
