RECAP >> Perhaps no team in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference is as hot as head coach Rich Giering’s Emmaus team.

The Hornets continued their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon at home at Williams Street Field as they handed rival Whitehall its first league loss of the season in dominating fashion, 6-0.

Emmaus has won 10 straight games in the league as they improved to 11-3, tied with Freedom for second place. Overall on the season, the Hornets are now 13-5 with their lone loss during that stretch being a 6-1 defeat to the defending state champs Spring-Ford.

Senior Danica Barthol continued her mastery in the circle in yesterday’s win becoming the first pitcher this season to shutout Whitehall. Barthol tossed a three-hit complete game with nine strikeouts.

Behind Barthol’s effort, the bats continued to remain red-hot for Emmaus as they pounded out 10 hits off of two Zephyr pitchers. Senior shortstop Avaeha Schwab went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, while senior center fielder Shayla Morgan also had a pair of hits and scored two runs. Senior catcher Mason Roselli went 1-for-3 and knocked in the first two runs of the game.

The Hornets jumped on Whitehall ace Kassy Aquino for three runs in the bottom of the first then added two more in the second and one in the third to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

Whitehall dropped 14-1 in the EPC and 17-2 overall.

Emmaus will have a quick turnaround as they travel to rival Parkland (8-7 EPC/8-9 overall) this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
