Tuesday roundup – Bender scores career-best 4 goal in girls 5-0 rout of Becahi; Reinhardt tallies two scores as boys remain unbeaten with 4-0 victory over Golden Hawks.

GIRLS SOCCER

At Memorial Field, junior Lizzy Bender scored a career-high four goals in leading Emmaus past Becahi 5-0.

Bender scored a pair of goals in each half – three assisted by teammate Ella Scharper, as the Hornets won their eighth straight game in improving to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the EPC.

“The first half ended with us being up 2-0 and we had a lot of opportunities, but we were just struggling to finish,” said coach Chris Hain. “The second half we did a good job of moving the ball which helped up create better opportunities by outnumbering Becahi in the attacking third which helped our finishing.

“The backline played great again as always. Sadie (Wallace) and Olivia (Haberl) were once again great in goal. Lizzy was our Player of the Match and Scharper, (Sofia) Isaksson, (Madison) Shutkufski and (Giuliana) Meyer all had great games.”

Emmaus will return to action on Thursday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Freedom.

BOYS SOCCER

At Bethlehem Catholic, the Hornets were returning to the pitch less than 20 hours after going on the road and knocking off previously unbeaten Northampton 1-0 on Monday night.

Head coach John Cari’s squad (9-0 overall/8-0 EPC) showed little effect of a hangover as they headed to Bethlehem and posted their eighth shutout win of the season over the Golden Hawks.

Senior Canyon Reinhardt scored the only goal the Hornets would need converting on a penalty kick in the first half.

Reinhardt would later add his second goal of the game – and team-leading 10th of season – along with classmates Austen Breisch and Connor Powell who scored their third and fourth goals, respectively.

Emmaus dominated not only the scoreboard but statistically — 21-0 in shots on goal and 9-0 in corners.

Emmaus will return to the pitch at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Memorial Field as they host Freedom (6-1-1/7-1-1-). The game will be aired LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network beginning at 6:15 p.m. (Listen: https://easternpasportsnet1.mixlr.com/events/4537941)
