Girls soccer – Emmaus 1, Whitehall 0 OT

At Memorial Field, Emmaus dominated play against visiting Whitehall, but the Hornets had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard as the two teams played 80 minutes of scoreless soccer before heading to overtime.

In the extra session, however, Emmaus broke through in the 88th minute as sophomore Ella Scharper was able to get off a shot that hit just inside the far post and into the back of the net, past Zephyr goalie Cora Musselman for the game-winner as the Hornets celebrated their first win of the season.

For her efforts, Scharper was named the Player of The Game on the LIVE broadcast provided by The Eastern Pa. Sports Network.

Emmaus (1-0 EPC/1-1 overall) controlled play as they outshot Whitehall 10-1 in the match.

Senior goalie Sadie Wallace picked up the win in net for the Hornets.

Up next for Emmaus will be a non-league home game on Saturday at 10 a.m. against District 2 foe Dallas.

At Whitehall, six different players scored goals as the Hornets opened up EPC play routing the Zephyrs.

Sophomore Brennan Stack and senior Austen Breisch each scored goal and an assist for Emmaus (1-0 EPC/2-0 overall).

Juniors Shaw Cook, Anthony Suida and Maseyn Muthard all scored their first career varsity goals. Senior Canyon Reinhardt had a game-high two assists.

In goal, senior Will Peck picked up the shutout win making three saves.

Emmaus will return to action on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as they host Allen in their home opener.
