Wrestling – Hornets celebrate Senior Night with 39-20 win over Whitehall to improve to 4-0

RECAP >> Emmaus remained unbeaten on the season after defeating Whitehall 39-20 on Wednesday at home on Senior Night. The match was carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network with former Hornet Jackson Karrat ’19 making his debut as a color analyst.

The Hornets won eight of the 13 bouts, scored bonus points in five matches to improve to 4-0. They also defeated the Zephyrs for the third straight season and for the fourth time in the last five years.

Emmaus got back-to-back pins at 160 and 172 from juniors Quin Scott (4-0 on the season) and Jack Brion (2-1), while senior Connor Carter (4-0) also got a fall at 285.

In four of the key bouts of the dual, the Hornets went 3-1. Sophomore Marco Albanese remained unbeaten (4-0) while handing Whitehall junior Johnny Colon his first loss of the season 4-3 at 120; junior Nick Velde was impressive with a 4-0 win over previously-undefeated junior Tyler Cunningham at 132; and junior Braulio Hurtado followed up Velde’s win with a 4-2 decision over freshman Seth Pasco at 138 to clinch the dual.

In the opening bout of the night, Hornets senior Kordell Waiters suffered his first loss after falling to unbeaten junior Xavier Arner 3-1 at 152.

Prior to the match, Emmaus honored its five seniors along with their parents. The seniors recognized were: Kordell Waiters, Gio Lainez, Connor Carter, Cody Lafaver and Deylain Newton.

Emmaus will be back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. as they travel to rival Parkland. The Hornets won the first meeting last Saturday 39-26.
