Emmaus celebrated its Senior Night on Wednesday at home at ‘The Hive’ by continue their winning ways with a dominant 61-12 victory over Stroudsburg in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

The Hornets won the first 11 bouts, scoring bonus points in all but one match as they won their sixth straight dual in improving to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in the EPC.

“Fundamentally, we were really sound from 107 right up to 189 and what stands out to me is that some of our wrestlers who tend to work towards a technical fall tonight, by orders of the coaching staff, started to work towards a pin and they got those pins,” said Emmaus head coach Jim Best on the LIVE broadcast on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network.

“Maybe not with the outcome of the team score tonight, but in a much tighter dual meet which we may face here in a couple of days, those extra bonus points are going to be really important, so I’m liking that our wrestlers are going for the pins and falls.”

The dual started at 107 with junior Jackson Max picking up his 25th win of the season with a 21-5 tech fall over fellow junior Jack Jasionowicz, who entered the match with a 20-3 record.

Some of the other highlights from the night included: sophomore Levi Max (16-9) recording a third period pin over the Mounties senior Hunter Brown at 127; sophomore Tommy Fallstich trailed early and then rallied with a second period fall over sophomore Chase Fetherman at 133; and freshman Xyler Sallit winning a 5-2 decision over senior Zack Berwick, who was 20-5 on the season and a sixth-place finisher at districts a year ago.

Seniors Chance Henry (145), Jesse Scott (160) and Massimo Tranguch (189) also recorded pins in the match.

Stroudsburg’s only two wins of the night came in the upper weights where junior Zion Essington pinned senior Ashir Choudhry at 215 and junior Alex Ball pinned senior Nick Irizzary at 285. The Mounties dropped to 12-8 overall and 3-7 in the league.

The match was delayed for nearly 20 minutes at 172 after Stroudsburg sophomore Leonard DeMaria suffered an injury with :27 seconds left in the second period of his match with Emmaus junior Xayden Sallit. DeMaria was taken to an area hospital for observation, released and is doing well according to an update from the Stroudsburg program on Thursday afternoon.

Emmaus recognized its nine seniors along with their parents prior to the start of the match: Jesse Scott, Massimo Tranguch, Chance Henry, Ashir Choudhry, Nick Irizarry, Michael Carter, Nate Wo, Klo Taw and Carter Salomon.

There was also a special tribute honoring the life of former Emmaus wrestler Craig Salomon who passed away in 2020. Salomon was 13 years old.

The Hornets will return to the mat on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. as they host Pennridge from the Suburban One Conference in a non-league match.
