RECAP >> Emmaus got off to a great start in its dual meet EPC home opener against Pocono Mountain East last night wnning the first four matches, but the Hornets couldn’t sustain the momentum the rest of the way as they fell to the Cardinals 40-27.

The loss marked the first time ever that Pocono Mountain East has defeated Emmaus.

“We had some very good efforts from our lighter weight wrestlers, but as the dual progressed our overall performance did not represent the preparation and attention to detail that we’ve been engaging in during practices over the last few months,” said Emmaus second year head coach Jim Best.

“With that said, give credit to Pocono Mountain East. They showed up to compete, they wrestled with toughness and they out-hustled us in many situations. Moving forward we will reflect, evaluate and make necessary changes.”

After trailing 21-0 to start the dual, the Cardinals won eight of the last nine matches to pick up the victory. The only victory during that stretch for Emmaus came from junior Massimo Tranguch (189) who picked up a second period pin over fellow junior Angelo McEaddy.

The Hornets dominated the light weights with freshman Emilio Albanese (107), sophomores Jackson Max (114) and Aiden Bayard (127) all picking up falls, while freshman Teagan Caciolo picked up a 3-1 decision.

Emmaus will return to action on Wednesday, December 13 when they travel to Northampton at 7 p.m.
