Emmaus continued its winning ways last night at home at ‘The Hive’ by honoring a large senior class with a 43-20 win over rival Parkland.

The Hornets won nine of the 13 bouts and overcame an early deficit to defeat the Trojans for the second consecutive season.

“After falling behind by 11 points early in the dual, against a solid Parkland team, we scored 43 points to secure the team victory,” said head coach Jim Best. “That effort represents the grit, tenacity and “do what it takes” mentality of the team.

“There are still technical situations that we need to improve on in order to keep evolving our skill set, but the coaching staff is proud of where the team has been this season, where we are currently, and excited about where we are headed from here.”

Emmaus improved to 7-1 in the EPC and 13-1 overall with the victory, while Parkland fell to 4-4 in the league and 9-6 overall.

The Sallit brothers — sophomore Xyler and senior Xayden — both picked up impressive back-to-back wins at 160 and 172 to clinch the dual for the Hornets who led 24-14 after the first eight bouts.

Xyler (17-7) pinned senior Jorge Moya (24-9) in 2:40 and then Xayden (22-9) followed up with a 16-4 major decision over sophomore Donato Ciampittiello giving Emmaus a 34-14 lead with three matches remaining.

In the lightweights, junior Teagan Caciolo (121), sophomore Talan Springer (127) and junior Emilio Albanese (133) all picked up wins in earning bonus points. At 152, senior Aiden Bayard also picked up a major decision victory.

Parkland got victories from junior Luis Moya (107), sophomore Braden Todora (114), junior Matt Velez (139) and junior Myles Lysek (285).

Prior to the match, Emmaus honored its 11 seniors: Xayden Sallit, Jackson Max, Aiden Bayard, Logan Roth, Logan Armstrong, Nate Miller, Frank Colosimo, Ben Strauss, Tonah Farley, Bryce Kleinle and Jayden Zheng.

Emmaus will return to action on Saturday at 11 a.m. as they travel to Pennridge for a non-league match.
