Wrestling – Rival Parkland uses bonus points to defeat Emmaus 33-27 and earn its first win against the Hornets since the 2016-17 season

RECAP >> Bonus points proved to be the difference as rivals Parkland and Emmaus collided on the mat as the Trojans edged the Hornets 33-27 in a Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match held before a near-capacity crowd at ‘The Hive’ in Emmaus.

Last night’s match was carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network (www.easternpasportsnetwork.com).

Parkland won seven of the 13 bouts, including scoring bonus points in six of those matches, as they defeated Emmaus for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

Sophomore Blake Dergham (106), seniors Kaleb Contes (113), Aaron Ciampitiello (113) and Adrian Gacek (172) and juniors Phoenix DelVecchio (126) and Juan Moya (152) all provided bonus points for the Trojans who improved to 2-0 overall.

Parkland won three of the last four bouts, including senior Aley Neely’s 3-2 win over junior Jake Gross in the final match at 189 to secure the victory.

Emmaus got wins from senior Nick Velde (138) and freshman Jesse Scott (132) who both remained undefeated on the season; seniors Jared Groller (215) and Jack Brion (172) along with junior Marco Albanese (145) who all have just one loss, and senior Trevor Gitski (285), now 5-2 on the season.

The Hornets, who were coming off an emotional 39-28 loss at Northampton just 24 hours earlier, dropped to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the EPC following the defeat.

Emmaus will return to action on December 22 at 7 p.m. as they travel to East Stroudsburg South High School.
