Competing in the 1st Annual Parkland Winter Duals, the Emmaus girls’ wrestling team had a strong showing on Sunday reaching the championship round before settling for a runner-up finish.
First year head coach Thad Smith’s squad won two of their three matches and advanced to the finals before falling to the host school and rival Parkland, 43-28.
In advancing to the finals, the Hornets defeated District 2’s Delaware Valley in the quarterfinals 40-33 before rallying for a thrilling win over EPC foe Northampton in the semifinals 41-35.
A number of wrestlers shined in the eight-team event with four going unbeaten at 3-0 — freshman Peyton Schneck (100), junior Olivya Kroope (155) and seniors Sarah Luisi (130) and Katherine Sota-Acuna (235).
Two other Hornets – freshman Haily Laible (148) and sophomore Brynn Koberlein (136) – each went 2-1 on the day.
The other teams competing in the event included: Freedom and Pocono Mountain East from the EPC, Panther Valley from the Schuylkill League and Pennsbury from the Suburban One Conference.
Emmaus will return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as they travel to Pleasant Valley.
