The dynasty that’s the Emmaus girls cross country team wrapped up yet another outstanding Eastern Pennsylvania Conference regular-season on Tuesday at Lehigh Parkway as they captured their sixth straight league title.
Head coach Kami Reinhard’ squad picked up four more wins, defeating rival Parkland (16-47), Central Catholic (15-48) and both Whitehall and Allen (15-50) to run their incredible dual meet win streak to 88 straight.
“The girls fought hard for another undefeated regular dual meet season finishing 16-0,” said Reinhard. “In today’s meet, we could hear some of the girls talking during the race, helping each other. One mentioned how much it helped her to work together with her teammate. “This” is what we strive for on our team, the concept of “we” over “me”.
“We had several girls who had huge breakthrough races, with two more freshmen girls breaking the 23:00 mark.”
Emmaus had the top four placewinners and six in the top 10. Sophomore Madelyn McCartney finished first overall in a time of 19:11, followed by teammates junior Payton Campbell (2nd/20:13), senior Brooke Miller (3rd/20:34) and senior Sophia Kovalski (4th/20:46). Junior Isabella Scarlata was sixth (21:13) and classmate Addison Johnson seventh (21:16).
While the girls team enjoyed another undefeated the season, their male counterparts also shined with victories over Central Catholic (20-41) along with Whitehall and Allen (both 15-50). The Hornets fell to their archrival Parkland (17-42).
“The boys team finished the season 14-2 against top state teams, so they should all feel really great about this season,” said Reinhard. “This is a young team with 12 freshmen who we refer to as the “fabulous freshman,” who have a bright future.
“Sophomore Ryan Fach had a incredible race today leading the pack. He has really impressed the coaching staff with his devotion to running all summer and this season. The boys are working on different race strategies and luckily they have had plenty of experience racing on challenging hilly courses this season. We look for all of their hard work to shine in postseason.”
Fach was fifth overall crossing the finish line in a time of 17:21. Junior Conor Fisher was also in the top 10 placing eighth (17:40) followed by classmate Richard Will who was 10th (17:50).
Parkland’s Ethan Willard was first overall in a time of 16:50. Central Catholic’s Duke Ebert was second (16:58) and Paul Abeln third (16:58).
Emmaus will return to action on Tuesday, October 17 competing in the EPC Championship at DeSales University. The boys race will start at 2 p.m. followed by the girls at 2:45 p.m.
“We expect a really competitive EPC League and District meet this year, so it will be exciting to watch it all unfold,” said Reinhard.
