Baseball – Hornets bounce back from loss to rival Parkland to defeat a one-loss PME squad 9-2 behind Williams’ 2 HR, five-RBI effort

One day after suffering its worst loss of the season in a 12-0 defeat to rival Parkland at Church Lane Park, Emmaus was back at its home field on Friday afternoon looking to rebound and get back into the win column against the team that sat atop the EPC standings, a one-loss Pocono Mountain East squad.

Thanks to the efforts of senior Josiah Williams, the Hornets did just that and then some.

Williams blasted two home runs and had five RBI, while also picking up the win on the mound as Emmaus bounced back with a solid 9-2 victory.

The win was an important one for head coach Jeremy Haas’ team as it keeps them in the hunt for a top four seed and a first-round playoff home game. The Hornets are now 12-3 in the league and 12-7 overall.

On the day, Williams was 3-for-3 at the plate with a two-run home run and a three-run shot.

On the mound, he picked up his second win this week throwing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. The right-hander gave up just two hits while striking out five before giving away to sophomore Cole Moreau who came on in the fourth and senior Wiley Fleck who closed out the victory in the seventh. The three pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts on the day.

PM East managed just five hits in the game and scored their only two runs in the fifth inning. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 13-2 in the EPC 14-4 overall.

Emmaus will close out their regular-season on Monday as they travel to Whitehall at 4 p.m.
