Baseball – Hornets score 8 runs in final at-bat to defeat Allen in high-scoring 14-10 affair, avoid second upset to Canaries

RECAP >> Facing a three-run deficit heading into their final at-bat, Emmaus put together an incredible rally as the Hornets survived a second upset bid from Allen defeating the Canaries 14-10 in a high-scoring affair on Wednesday afternoon in Allentown.

Having already lost to Allen once this season, the Hornets were staring down another possible loss, but an eight-run seventh inning was the difference as Emmaus salvaged a split of the season-series with the Canaries.

The victory was the third straight for head coach Jeremy Haas’ squad who improved to 9-2 in the EPC and 9-6 overall.

Senior right fielder Noah Hogan led the offensive attack with a 4-for-6 performance with two doubles and two RBI. Senior shortstop Emmit Budick and fellow senior second baseman Cohen Schadler each added three hits for the Hornets who had 14 hits in the game.

On the mound, senior Wiley Fleck picked up his first win of the season in relief going three innings and striking out five. Starter Shane Ohl went just 1/3 innings allowing five runs on three hits.

For Allen, second baseman Joel Chacon was 2-for-3 with two RBI, catcher Luis Reyes also had two hits and third baseman Aaron Schneider drove in three runs. The Canaries fell to 5-9 overall and 5-7 in the EPC after dropping their fourth straight game.

Emmaus will return to action on Monday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Limeport to take on Central Catholic. The game will be aired LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network.
