RECAP >> Five Emmaus pitchers combined on a three-hitter and just a single run as the Hornets went on the road for the first time this season and defeated Pottsville 5-1 in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon.
Starter sophomore Braden Waller picked up his first career varsity win striking out four and allowing just one hit in two innings of work for Emmaus which improved to 3-0 on the season. The left-hander went just two innings, allowing one hit and four strikeouts.
Freshman Jaden Gallagher also saw his first varsity action on the mound working two innings, while junior Jason St. Pierre, senior Robert Church and junior Jude Negron all pitched one inning.
Emmaus gave up its first run of the season after two shutouts and 20-scoreless innings as Pottsville scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Hornets offense was led by senior Brandon Robinson and junior Matt Madigan who each had two hits and an RBI. Senior Kellan Tulio reached base three time and went 1-for-2 with two walks, senior Tyler Ritter was also 1-for-2 and junior Wyatt Henseler went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Emmaus will return to league action at 4 p.m on Monday as they travel to Whitehall to take on the Zephyrs.
