On a day when Emmaus honored its senior class, perhaps the only thing that would have capped off the day of celebration would have been a win over archrival Parkland.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, that didn’t happen in their final meet of the season on Monday at Bicentennial Park.
Both the boys and girls’ teams rolled to victories over Central Catholic, Allen, Dieruff and Whitehall, but both came up on the short end against the Trojans as the boys suffered their first loss of the season 24-34, while their female counterparts lost for the second time this season in a much closer race, 27-29.
The boys finish 16-1 in the EPC regular-season for the second straight year, while the girls wrap up a 15-2 campaign.
In the boys race, Emmaus junior David Hearn shined as he crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 15:47, just two seconds ahead of Parkland junior Cole Orloski who finished in second (15:49) and senior Colin McGuigan, the defending EPC and District XI champion, who placed third (15:57).
Hearn’s classmate, Roen Woolf, finished in fourth place finish in a time of 16:28, while fellow junior Michael Carwell was seventh (16:39) and sophomore Mason Hipp 10th (17:07).
In the girls race, senior Grace Nosal was Emmaus’ top runner placing second overall in a time of 20:06, followed by junior Samantha Reidnauer who was third (20:20) and junior Aubrey Kazmierczak who was fifth (20:49).
Parkland senior Harshita Keerthi finished first overall in time of 19:30.
Emmaus celebrated the day honoring its senior class. The eight boys recognized included: Evan Busse, William Fessler, Max Miller, Gavin Morris, Aaron Sallash, Calvin Schucker, Matt Sirignano and Ethan Yang; the seven girls included: Isabella Alwine-Balliro, Julia Murphy-Peterson, Grace Nosal, Leah Pulcini, Liam Schweyer, Kendall Shriver and Ella Weikel
Up next for both teams will be the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Tournament on October 20 at DeSales University.
