Field hockey – Hornets prep for upcoming showdown vs rival Parkland, rallying for a 3-1 road win over District 3’s Penn Manor

Lovey Pilarski (far left) scored the game-winning goal in the Hornets 3-1 win over Penn Manor on Saturday.

An early one goal deficit didn’t faze Emmaus in their Saturday morning road matchup against District 3’s Penn Manor as the Hornets wrapped up the non-league portion of their schedule rallying for a 3-1 win.

After the Comets struck first on senior Sophia Geiter’s goal off a penalty corner in the second quarter, Emmaus responded tying the game at 1-1 on junior Riley Povilaitis’ ninth goal of the season.

The Hornets, who also defeated Penn Manor a year ago 3-2, took the lead for good in the third quarter on junior Lovey Pilarski’s goal, her fourth of the season, and then senior Gracie Huffer added a big insurance goal – her team-leading 28th – to push the advantage to 3-1.

With the victory, Emmaus remained unbeaten on the season as they improved to 17-0. They also extended their win streak to 29 straight games dating back to last season. Penn Manor dropped to 10-4-2 with the loss.

Statistically, the Hornets dominated in the game outshooting the Comets 39-5 and 18-7 in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Emily Romano stopped four of the five shots she faced, while her counterpart, senior Audrey Snodgrass, was busy making 27 stops.

Emmaus will close out their regular season on Tuesday as they travel to rival Parkland at 7 p.m. Both teams are unbeaten in the EPC (12-0).
