Facing a Bethlehem Catholic team with the league’s fourth best offense (averaging 34 points per game), the Emmaus defense dialed up arguably its finest moment of the season as the Hornets shut out the previously-undefeated Golden Hawks 10-0 on a rainy Friday night at East Penn School District Stadium.

Defensive coordinator Jake Hildebrand’s unit posted its second straight shutout, and third of the season, as they held Becahi scoreless for the first time this season in limiting them to just 84 yards of total offense (55 rushing/29 passing).

Senior lineman Ben Mercado led the Hornets with seven tackles on the night, while fellow lineman, sophomore Robert Edwards, was next with five tackles.

The victory evened Emmaus’ record at 3-3 as they picked up their fifth straight win over the Golden Hawks.

Offensively, Emmaus was held to its second lowest point total of the season, but the Hornets did just enough to pickup the victory.

Senior quarterback Josiah Williams, who sat out last week’s win over Dieruff, returned under center and accounted for 174 yards of total offense, 125 of which came through the air. Williams hooked up with junior wideout Rafael Terrero on a 13-yard scoring strike in the second quarter for the lone touchdown of the night.

Terrero had his best game of the season with a career-high 81 yards receiving on just four receptions. He also had four tackles and an interception. For his efforts, he was named the SportClips Player of the Game on the live broadcast on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network.

Senior kicker Will Buck continued his outstanding season converting on a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter to give Emmaus a 3-0 lead. Buck is 6-for-7 on the year with his only miss being a 51-yard attempt in the third quarter last night.

Bethlehem Catholic, which hasn’t beaten Emmaus since 2017, dropped to 5-1 on the season with the loss.

Emmaus will return to action next Friday at 7 p.m. when they travel to Cottingham Stadium to take on Easton (3-3). The game will be carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network beginning with the pregame show at 6:40 p.m.
