Girls Basketball – Road warrior Hornets used balanced scoring attack to defeat ES South 49-43 for seventh win of the season

RECAP >> Emmaus picked up their fifth road win of the season last night defeating East Stroudsburg South 49-43 as Hornets head coach Kelsey Gallagher got the better of her sister, Carly, who coaches the Cavaliers.

The Hornets used a balanced scoring attack with nearly four players reaching double figures as they remained one of three unbeatens in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference at 5-0 while improving to 7-1 overall.

Freshman Gabrielle De Vita led Emmaus in scoring for the fifth time this season finishing with a team-high 14 points. Junior Taylor Griffith added 12 points, while classmate Mya Cooper added 11. Senior Paige Inman just missed double figures with eight points.

East Stroudsburg South was led in scoring by Layla Hernandez who went 11-for-12 from the free-throw line and scored a game-high 21 points. Teammate Tyrah Smith added 10 points for the Cavaliers who dropped their fourth straight game to fall to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the EPC.

Emmaus will be back in action on Tuesday, December 27 at 3 p.m. as they take on Phillipsburg in the 26th Annual Jack Bennett Easton Rotary Club Basketball Tournament at Easton Area MS.
