Girls Lacrosse – Cote and Hollinger power Hornets who get long-awaited win over rival Parkland; Emmaus scores 17 goals in regular-season finale, record most wins for program since 2012

RECAP >> To say that Emmaus has had little to no success against their arch-rival Parkland over the last several years would be quite the understatement.

Only once in 12 of the last 13 match-ups since 2014 have the Hornets been able to knock off the Trojans, who have dominated the local girls lacrosse scene winning four of the past five Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championships to go along with five straight District XI Class 3A titles.

Know this: past history means little to nothing to this 2021 Emmaus squad.

On Wednesday night at Memorial Field in their final game before the post-season, head coach Roxanne Betz’s squad punctuated one of the best regular-season’s in program history as they took apart a very different looking Parkland unit by handing the Trojans their worst loss of the season 17-1.

Junior Julia Cote had a night to remember in leading Emmaus’ offensive attack as she surpassed the 60-goal mark in a single-season by scoring a career-high eight goals and registering her 100th point of the year.

Teammate sophomore Emily Hollinger also had big night in the win as she had her third five-goal game of the season.

Defensively, Emmaus was outstanding giving up just a first half goal to Sophie Marcotte. The Hornets were led by senior defender Nesiah Bertram and classmate goalie Ellie Ervin who made 10 saves between the pipes.

With the victory, Emmaus closed out their league schedule with an 8-1 mark and moved their overall record to 15-1. The 15 wins is the most since the 2012 season for the program.

Up next for the Hornets will be the EPC semifinals on Monday where they will host Freedom at 5 p.m LIVE on The Eastern Pa Sports Network. The two teams met just two weeks ago with the Emmaus prevailing 11-7.

The other semifinal Monday will have Easton hosting Pleasant Valley. The league championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 13 at Northampton High School.
