Girls lacrosse – O’Brien scores career-high 8 goals, including game-winner late, as Hornets keep post-season hopes alive with wild 19-18 win over Central Catholic

RECAP >> Needing a win to keep alive its hopes of reaching the post-season for the 11th straight season, the Emmaus girls lacrosse team did just that on Tuesday afternoon as the Hornets went on the road and defeated Central Catholic in a high-scoring 19-18 affair.

Senior Taylor O’Brien scored a career-high eight goals, including the game-winner with under a minute to play, as Emmaus defeated the Vikings for the second time this season in a one-goal game (first meeting 12-11 on April 4).

With the victory, the Hornets evened their overall record at 8-8 and their EPC mark at 4-5. Emmaus will need to win one of its final two games in order to qualify for the District XI playoffs.

O’Brien, who went over the 50-goal mark for the third straight season, also had three assists in the win and finished with an 11-point game, sharing scoring honors with classmate Grace Hall who had another big day with five goals and matching her career-high with six assists. Hall is also closing in on the 50-goal mark with 47 goals on the season.

Junior Kaitlyn Csensits surpassed the 40-goal mark in the win with four goals to go along with two assists, while freshman Julie Cote scored her 15th goal of the season.

Central Catholic, which dropped to 4-8 on the season, was led by seven-point efforts from Megan Patt (4 goals/3 assists) and teammate Emma Talago (3 goals/4 assists). Izzy Sunday also had a had trick in the loss.

Emmaus will return to action at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday at Memorial Field for the final home game of the season hosting rival Parkland.
