RECAP >> Visiting Perkiomen Valley from the Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC) jumped on Emmaus for five runs in the first inning and handed the Hornets their third straight loss, 8-5 on Tuesday afternoon in a game played at Kiwanis Field.

In the defeat, Emmaus senior pitcher Hannah Palinkas reached a milestone as she recorded her 400th career strikeout. The hard-throwing right-hander was forced into duty and allowed just one run on seven hits in six innings after starter junior Tatum Kresley was knocked around for seven runs on six hits in just one inning of work.

The loss was the third in the last four days for Emmaus which is now 10-5 overall.

The Hornets had led 11 hits in the game off Perkiomen Valley sophomore starter Ava Macalis. Kresley was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Palinkas and first baseman Jordan Bruckler each had two hits. Center fielder Lily Trexler had a triple and an RBI in the defeat.

Perkiomen Valley, which improved to 8-5 on the season, was led by senior shortstop Jordan Sell who was 4-for-5 with three RBI. Sell was named to the Class 6A All-State team a year ago. Teammate first baseman junior Kara Fusco was 3-for-4, while center fielder senior Sela Fusco and third baseman senior Ashley Bangert each had two hits.

Macalis was the winning pitcher scattering 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Emmaus will look to snap its three-game losing streak on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they return to Kiwanis Field to take on Whitehall in a key EPC Skyline Division game. The Hornets won the first meeting 7-5 back on April 1.
