RECAP >> Emmaus raced out to a quick 2-0 lead after winning the opening two sets at home Tuesday against visiting Northampton, then had to hold on as the K-Kids made a furious rally before the Hornets eventually survived with a win in five sets 3-2 (25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 15-8).
Senior Macy Van Den Elzen dominated play at the net with a game-high 24 kills for the Hornets, while teammate junior Jaya Bhagat had 17 kills to go along with 12 digs.
Senior Kelsie Baus led the defense with a team-best 20 digs, freshman Hannah Horvath added 9 digs and sophomore setter Kassidy Hallman dished out a season-high 58 assists for Emmaus which improved to 10-2 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and 10-4 overall.
For the K-Kids, senior Sydney Heffner had a huge game with 11 kills, 14 digs and 29 assists, while classmate Brooke Rockovits also had a solid effort with 11 kills and 10 digs. Northampton dropped 8-5 in the EPC and 9-5 overall with the loss, its second to Emmaus this season.
Emmaus will be back home on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. as they host rival Parkland in their annual Spike Out Cancer game.
