Patton scores game-winner as field hockey wins fourth straight EPC Championship, rallying for 2-1 win over Easton

Emmaus 2, Easton 1

RECAP – Emmaus had been in this position before so the situation was a familiar one.

And just like they did exactly a month ago to the day when they trailed at Stroudsburg before eventually rallying for a 3-1 win, the Hornets passed with flying colors.

Trailing Easton 1-0 in the first half of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship game on a chilly Thursday night at Parkland High School, Emmaus put together its second comeback win of the season – and it was big one – as the Hornets rallied for a 2-1 win over the Red Rovers, winning their fourth straight league title and their 14th in the last 15 years.

Senior Kacie Patton provided the dramatic game-winning goal with just 2:31 left on the clock as she blasted a shot past Easton goalie Danielle Swallow for her 23rd goal of the season for the Hornets who defeated Easton for the second time this season.

Emmaus remains a perfect 21-0 on the season with the win, while Easton dropped to 17-3.

Easton had taken a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of the first half as senior Ellie McIntyre scored the game’s first goal off a rebound shot past Hornets senior goalie Claire Nielsen. Emmaus would respond, however, as sophomore Annika Herbine scored on a penalty stroke for her 40th goal of the season with a little over seven minutes before halftime tying the game at 1-1
