Emmaus 2, CCHS 0 (Girls)
At Memorial Field on Thursday night, Emmaus put together an outstanding performance from start to finish in their win over rival Central Catholic.
It was the third straight victory for head coach Chris Hain’s squad who improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the EPC.
Senior Lizzy Bender scored the only goal the Hornets would need on the night – her third of the season – converting on a penalty kick in the 17th minute of the first half with a well-struck ball into the upper right corner of the goal past Central goalie Maeve McGee.
Freshman Brooke Evans, who has already scored three goals on the young season, added a big insurance goal in the 73rd minute on a set piece blasting a well-placed shot from 25 yards out to make it 2-0.
Defensively, Emmaus posted its third clean sheet of the season. The backline of senior Ella Daly, junior Cecilia Lower, freshman Lily Desiderio, sophomore Koli Esterly and senior Hannah Berk drew praise from their head coach.
In the match, the Hornets outshot the Vikettes 12-6 and held a 5-3 advantage in corners. In goal, sophomore Zoe Reppert stopped all six shots she faced, while McGee was busy making 10 saves for Central.
Emmaus will return to action September 9 as they travel to Pocono Mountain West at 4 p.m.

Emmaus 3, CCHS 0 (Boys)
At Cedar Crest College on Thursday night, Emmaus got goals from three different players in their Eastern Pennsylvania Conference season opening win over the Vikings in a game that ended with a little over 11 minutes left in the second half due to lightning.
Junior Caeden Thornton wound up scoring the only goal the Hornets would need in the 36th minute of the first half on a beautiful, well-struck ball on a tough angle over the outstretched arms of CCHS goalie Alex Tripoli.
Emmaus would add an insurance goal just two minutes later as senior Gabe Reyes scored his first goal of the season on a well-placed left footed shot.
Junior Elek Chuhran closed out the scoring with his first career varsity goal in the second half.
In the match, Emmaus had seven shots on goal while holding Central without a shot. The Hornets also had the advantage in corners 6-0. In goal, sophomore Chase Evans posted the shutout.
Emmaus will return to action on Wednesday, September 9 as they host Pocono Mountain West at 6:30 p.m.
