Softball – Barthol strikes out 11 in season-opener, Hornets rout Perk Valley 10-0 to give new head coach first win.

RECAP >> Junior Danika Barthol shined on opening day for Emmaus as the Hornets routed Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Perkiomen Valley 10-0 in five innings on Friday afternoon marking the first win for new head coach Rich Giering.

Barthol struck out 11 and allowed just two hits and she also went 2-for-3 at the plate for Emmaus (1-0) which banged out nine hits.

Second baseman junior Daria Krout also had two hits and scored a pair of runs, while center fielder classmate Shayla Morgan drove in three.

Perk Valley starting pitcher sophomore Bella Reedy last just three innings, giving up five runs on six hits. 

The Vikings lone hits of the game came from first baseman Ella Strechay and shortstop Serena Crovetti.

Emmaus will return to action on Monday as they hit the road and face their second PAC opponent in as many games, Spring-Ford. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
