An early four-run deficit to rival Parkland hardly fazed Emmaus on Thursday afternoon at home at Williams Street Field as the Hornets continued their winning ways with a 14-4, six inning mercy rule win over the Trojans.
In winning their seventh straight game, Emmaus swept the regular-season series from their arch-rival, overcoming a 4-0 deficit with 14 unanswered runs as they cruised to the victory, improving their overall record to 16-3 and 13-3 in the EPC.
A number of players had multiple hits in the win for head coach Rich Giering’s team with junior second baseman Sadie Haefeli leading the offense with a career-high five RBI to go along with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate. Senior right fielder Molly Yard also had four hits, scored four runs and and drove in two, while classmate left fielder Taylor Bruckler was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Senior shortstop Bri Amey had two hits, including a towering three-run home run in the fourth that gave Emmaus the lead for good. Senior third baseman Taylor Gitski and fellow senior, pitcher Autumn Held, along with sophomore catcher Abby Derr all added two hits.
Held picked up the win in the circle giving up four early runs, but then settled down to not allow a run the rest of the way. The right-hander scattered five hits while striking out five, including the 100th of her career.
Parkland, which had been one of the hottest team’s in the league riding a 10-game win streak, dropped to 14-4 overall and 12-3 in the league with the loss. Reliever Aubrey Wilson suffered the loss after giving up eight runs on 12 hits in just two innings.
The Hornets will close out their regular-season on Monday, May 6 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Whitehall.
